Our Hairstyling program equips you with all the tools you need to launch for an exciting and successful career as a Hairstylist. We combine theory and practical training to help you explore your creativity, talents and entrepreneurial spirit. You will truly define the career path you want to take. You will have 1400 hours (9 months) of educational training necessary towards your apprenticeship as an Alberta HairStylist Journey Person which will be broken down into 3 levels.

Program Levels

Level A

Theoretical Introduction to Hairstyling

  • Theory training with Milady Cima Program
  • Basic Client Procedures
    • Proper methods of draping
    • Shampooing, hair design and long hair design
    • Texture services (i.e., perms, thermal straighteners and relaxers)
    • Hair coloring and lightening
  • Intro to design and barbering; performing basic haircuts using the shears, razor and clipper
  • Hair Styling: braids, finger waves, heat styling using the blow dryer, curling iron and flat iron.

Level B

Technical Skills

  • Art of Consultation
  • Extensions
  • Advanced Long hair cutting and styling
  • Advanced Colour Theory
  • Beginner session work

Level C

Career Preparation

  • Salon Floor Experience
  • Salon Work Experience
  • Advanced Colouring Techniques
  • Internal class competitions for various accolades.
  • Resume and portfolio development for career advancement.
  • Professional photo shoot preparations and competition work.

Registration:

$150 *applied to tuition.

  • English 10-2 or 13
  • 33 High School Credits
  • Personal Interview
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Students under age of 18 require parental or legal guardian signatures.
  • Mature Student Status – Aptitude Exam
  • 250 word essay as to why you’ve chosen this career
